Danbury Whalers News Release

The Whalers' 5th regular season has been completed and as the team prepares for the battle for the playoffs, here is a look back at the award winners for 2014-15 who were recognized in a pre-game ceremony at last Saturday's game.

Brett Liscomb was the recipient of the Top Forward award. With 82 points in 51 games, Liscomb set a new Whalers single season record, surpassing Cody Ayers mark of 81 set last season. For the 2nd consecutive season, the Top Defenseman award went to Steve Brown. Brown's defensive efforts game in and game out have continued to be a major factor for the Whalers success. Steve also had a career year offensively as well, tallying 4 goals and 17 points in 33 games.

The Danbury Whalers Award is given to those who both on and off the ice exemplify the "Never Give Up" attitude of the Whalers organization. This season, there were three recipients. Forward Ryan Patsch, and team Captain, David Lun were the two players selected, while Tricia Coe won from the front office. Patsch tallied 23 goals and 58 points in 48 games this season. Patsch, a fan favorite in Danbury, has been extremely active in the many philanthropic efforts of the Whalers. David Lun, the longest tenured captain in Whalers history, battled throughout the season, fighting numerous injuries, but never lost his spirit and continued to be team leader throughout the community. The final recipient of the Danbury Whalers Award is not a player, but a member of the front office. Tricia Coe has been a part of the Whalers organization for all five seasons, working her way up to Vice President of Sales and Operations. Tricia has been the spearhead to the organization's fundraising and charitable program as well as numerous community relations activities.

Once again the People's Choice Award went to Julian Fraser as he has now won the award 3-straight seasons. In his three-seasons in Danbury Julian has been among the most popular players in team history rivaling Corey Fulton & Sean O'Malley.

The William Barnes Chick fil-A Most Valuable Player award went to the the Naugatuck Whaler, Tim Richter. Richter has been reliable in all situations for the team. Offensively with 66 points in 51 games, defensively, on special teams, with 7 power play goals and 2 shorthanded goals, and is never afraid to back down from a battle, as evident with his 103 penalty minutes. Richter sits in 2nd place for the all-time points trailing only Cody Ayers and he has posted 2 of the top 4 single season scoring marks for the club.
