Toledo Walleye News Release

Toledo, OH - Defenseman Joe Stejskal (STAY-skull) has been added to the Walleye in a trade with the Gwinnett Gladiators in exchange for forward Anthony Luciani. In a separate deal, Toledo picked up forward Justin Daniels from Elmira while sending defenseman Joe Houk to the Jackals.

"Trades are never easy to make at any time of the season," said Head Coach Derek Lalonde. "We felt we needed to add an experienced defenseman for our playoff run, and Joe fits that need. Justin is a player we feel can complement our style of play and will immediately go into our line-up."

Stejskal has appeared in 48 games this season with the Gladiators as an assistant captain, scoring four goals with 18 assists and 47 penalty minutes. He has a team best plus five rating. The fifth round draft choice of the Montreal Canadiens in the 2007 NHL Draft has also skated in seven games with no points this year with Iowa in the AHL. Stejskal, a native of Grand Rapids, Minnesota, spent last season in Florida with the Everblades skating in 65 games with 19 points (3G, 16A).

The 26-year-old defenseman has appeared in a total of 100 games at the AHL level between Iowa and Hamilton with one goal and eight assists with 46 penalty minutes. Prior to turning professional, Stejskal spent four years as a standout defenseman at Dartmouth College. In 126 games the 6'3", 203 blue liner posted 14 goals and 18 assists while being an ECAC All-Academic Team member for the Big Green in 2008-2009.

Daniels joins the Walleye after picking up 21 points (2G, 19A) in 38 games with the Jackals this season. He also appeared five games early this year in Reading with one assist. The third round draft choice of the San Jose Sharks in the 2008 NHL Draft had 10 points (4G, 6A) in 39 games with the Jackals a season ago. Daniels, a native of Suffern, New York, played three seasons at Northeastern University before turning professional in 2012. The 25-year-old posted his best numbers during his final year at Northeastern with 17 points (7G, 10A) in 33 games. His twin brother Drew Daniels is currently a defenseman with the Fort Wayne Komets.

Anthony Luciani posted 58 points (21G, 37A) in 52 games this year for the Walleye. Earlier this season, the 24-year-old set a new Walleye record with a 10 game point streak (October 18 through November 16). Joe Houk had seven points (1G, 6A) in 25 games this season. The first year defenseman picked up his first professional goal on February 20 vs. Cincinnati.

The Walleye return home on Wednesday to face-off against the Orlando Solar Bears. For tickets, call the box office at 419-725-9255 or go online at www.toledowalleye.com.
