Walleye Notes

Two of Three on the Road: Jared Coreau made his first start with the Walleye since November 21 a memorable one posting 44 saves on 46 shots in a 3-2 win Friday at Elmira. Toledo stormed back from a 3-1 deficit Saturday night in Reading by scoring four unanswered goals in a 5-3 win. Reading ran out to a 3-0 lead on the Walleye Sunday and Toledo could not catch up in a 3-2 loss.

Record Tied: With a pair of road wins this past weekend Toledo has tied the 2012-13 Walleye team with 19 road wins. That team finished the season 19-14-3 away from home. The Toledo ECHL record for road wins in a single season is 21, reached by the 1991-92 Storm team and equaled by the 1995-96 team.

Frk Also Ties a Record: With his goal Friday night in Elmira, Martin Frk tied Andy Bohmbach (March 25 through April 2, 2011) with a goal in six consecutive games. Frk was held to just an assist on Saturday, but came back with a goal in Sunday's loss at Reading.

Frk and Lerg to Grand Rapids: Following Sunday's game at Reading, forward Martin Frk was reassigned by the Detroit Red Wings of the NHL to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL. Frk has 38 points (23G, 15A) in just 29 games played this year with the Walleye. Goaltender Jeff Lerg was also loaned to the Griffins. Lerg is currently second among ECHL goaltenders in wins with 24 and also has a 2.45 goals against average and .917 save percentage. The Griffins have a pair of games Tuesday and Thursday at the Charlotte Checkers.

No Need to be Shorthanded: Toledo did not need its top ranked penalty kill for much of the weekend. The Walleye did not take a penalty in the entire game on Friday in Elmira and was not shorthanded Saturday night in Reading. It was the first time in Walleye history that they went consecutive games without being shorthanded. The first time Toledo had to kill off a penalty was in the second period of Sunday's game, a span of seven straight periods since the last shorthanded situation. The Walleye penalty kill unit sits at 88.5%.

Wednesday Starts a Busy Seven Days: The Orlando Solar Bears will invade the Huntington Center Wednesday night for the first game of five in seven days for the Walleye. Toledo has played Orlando twice winning 4-3 November 15 and 9-6 November 28. Friday night is the final meeting of the season between the Walleye and Fort Wayne Komets. Toledo has a record of 4-1-1 against their closest geographical opponent. The Walleye are 3-0-0 against the Indy Fuel who make an appearance at the Huntington Center on Saturday. Toledo will finish its five games in seven days with a Monday tilt in Elmira and Tuesday in Wheeling.

Walleye Player of the Week:

Kyle Bonis (3 goals - 2 assists = 5 points)

Walleye Goaltender of the Week:

Jeff Lerg (1-1-0, 2.83 GAA, .910 save %)
