Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN -- The Saltdogs signed two-time College World Series champion and former first-round pick Mitch Canham.

Canham helped lead Oregon State to CWS titles in 2006 and 2007 before being drafted in the first round by the San Diego Padres.

The 30-year old catcher has hit .253 with 26 home runs and 259 RBI over 606 games in eight professional seasons, reaching as high as Triple-A.

Canham earned Texas League All-Star honors at the mid-season mark in 2013, and went on to play briefly with the Omaha Storm Chasers.

A Richland, Wash. native, Canham has professional experience at the corner infield and corner outfield positions as well.

He spent 2014 playing for Double-A Harrisburg in the Washington Nationals organization, playing in 35 games.

This will be Canham's second stint in the independent ranks, after hitting .253 in 64 games for Long Island (Atlantic) in 2012.

DOGS SIGN RHP ARNESON, TRADE LHP BARHAM

Lincoln also signed 26-year old RHP Zach Arneson, a former ninth-round pick of the New York Yankees.

Arneson, who hails from Bakersfield, Calif., has a career 6-5 record with a 4.89 ERA. The 6-foot-2 hurler has struck out 94 batters in 88 1/3 innings.

The Saltdogs traded LHP Trey Barham to Southern Maryland (Atlantic) for a player to be named later.

Barham went 3-1 with a 4.78 ERA in 37 games of relief for the Saltdogs in 2014.
