PEORIA - The Peoria Rivermen tied the game twice but never led as they lost the regular season home finale 3-2 to the Mississippi RiverKings on Saturday night at Carver Arena.

The RiverKings opened the scoring by capitalizing on their first power play when Devin Mantha redirected a Mike Grace drive from the high slot also assisted by Andrew Randazzo with 2:32 showing before the first intermission.

The Rivermen evened the contest 5:27 into the second period when Josh Harris jabbed the puck just past Mississippi goalie Adam Courchaine, who had trouble corralling a wrister from the left point by Ben Oskroba also assisted by Ryan Raven. Mississippi took a 2-1 lead with 10:45 remaining in the middle chapter when Leo Thomas scored at the doorstep stick-side, aided by Matt Whitehead and Linden Bahm.

Peoria found the equalizer with 11:19 left in regulation on a wrist shot from the slot by Nick Schneider with assists credited to Alec Hagaman and Harris. Mississippi regained the lead for good with 5:48 left on a top-shelf drive from the right circle by Mike Hayward on assists from Reid Campbell and Mantha.

Courchaine stopped 48 Rivermen shots for the win while Kyle Rank suffered the loss with 31 saves. Mississippi converted one of their two power plays while the Rivermen were unsuccessful on their three chances.

The Rivermen remain on top of the Southern Professional Hockey League with a record of 32-15-3 for 67 points and finish the home regular season at 19-8-1. The RiverKings improve to 28-18-2 for 58 points and move into a three-way tie for second place with Columbus and Pensacola.
