Walla Walla Sweets News Release

WALLA WALLA, Wash. - The Walla Walla Sweets roster for the 2015 season of West Coast League baseball is almost complete. The team announced today the addition of top California prospects and University of Washington commits Joe Demers and Willie MacIver.

Demers, a 6-foot 2-inch, 230-pound right-handed pitcher, is a senior at College Park High School in Pleasant Hill, California. The native of Martinez, California represented the USA National team four times, has been named a top prospect for the MLB draft. Last season, Demers was 12-2, with 94 strikeouts and 0.65 ERA while only allowing eight walks.

"Demers was a major signee for us," said Sweets manager Frank Mutz. "He's one of the top high school pitchers in the entire country, boasting a mid-90s fastball and an exceptional arsenal of off-speed stuff. He's a guy fans won't want to miss this summer."

Willie MacIver, a 6-foot 1-inch, 195 pound catcher, is also a senior at College Park High School in Pleasant Hill, California, and the battery mate of Joe Demers. Last season as a junior, MacIver appeared in 30 games, hitting .370 with 24 RBI, seven doubles, and five triples. As a sophomore he hit .351 with 13 RBI and 5 doubles.

"Willie is a solid defender behind the plate and has shown solid offensive skills as well," added Mutz. "He's a top 100 prospect out of California and will most certainly make an impact for us this summer before his arrival on the University of Washington campus."

Opening Day of the Sweets 2015 season is scheduled for June 5 at 7:05 P.M. at Borleske Stadium against the Medford Rogues. Ticket packages are on sale now at the Sweets Shoppe in downtown Walla Walla, online at wallawallasweets.com, or by calling 509.522.BALL (2255).
