Norfolk Admirals News Release

NORFOLK, Va. - The Binghamton Senators bested the Norfolk Admirals in a 4-1 win Wednesday night at Scope Arena behind a 46-save effort by Scott Greenham.

Seven minutes into the first period the Senators struck. On a three-on-two opportunity, Cole Schneider, Carter Camper and Patrick Mullen skated into the Admirals' zone. Schneider grabbed the puck and triggered a shot from the right circle on netminder Jason LaBarbera. The goaltender made the initial save, but directed the rebound into the slot to a crashing Mullen for the put-back and a 1-0 lead.

Colby Robak tied the game for the Admirals at 14:28 of the first period. Newcomer Shawn Szydlowski, making his Norfolk debut, skated the puck around the net before dishing to Robak. Greenham denied Robak's initial shot, but couldn't thwart Robak's follow-up effort that looped over his arm. Charlie Sarault earned the secondary assist on the tally, which sent the two teams into the second period deadlocked at 1-1.

Another goal didn't come until late in the second frame when the Senators went on the power play. Schneider rushed into the zone with Ryan Dzingel on the man-advantage and slipped a pass to the Ohio State product. Dzingel's flick found the top corner on LaBarbera's glove side to give Binghamton the lead once more at 16:47.

The Senators extended the advantage to two with five and a half minutes remaining in the middle frame. Darren Kramer spotted Max McCormick in the slot from the left wall, and set up McCormick's wrister that slipped five-hole beneath LaBarbera.

Danny Hobbs made it official for Binghamton with an empty-netter. Shane Prince and Garrett Thompson got the assists at 18:16 as Binghamton took the game, 4-1.

LaBarbera withstood 27 of 30 shots and Greenham saved 46 of 47 Norfolk opportunities. Binghamton blanked the Admirals on eight power play chances, while the Senators put away one of their five attempts.

Norfolk and Binghamton have a day off before clashing again on Friday night at 7:15 p.m. at Scope.

Three Stars:

1) BNG #35 Scott Greenham (46 saves)

2) BNG #14 Patrick Mullen (1 G, 1 A)

3) NOR #17 Charlie Sarault (1 A)

NOTES ... Colby Robak's goal tonight was his first as an Admiral ... Charlie Sarault now has three points in his last five games ... Mike Embach, Mike Sgarbossa and Shawn Szydlowski each made their Admirals debuts.
