Erie Otters News Release

Erie, Pennsylvania - The Otters offense dominated Barrie Wednesday night at Erie Insurance Arena with the Otters rolling to a 10-5 win over the Colts. Erie scored 10 goals on 18 shots and five Otters recorded three points in the game.

Connor McDavid put Erie up to an early lead with a power play goal 1:15 into the first period. Five minutes later, McDavid skated in alone, dangled in front of Mackenzie Blackwood, and passed to Kyle Maksimovich who roofed the puck behind Blackwood. It took another minute for Alex DeBrincat to get the puck to McDavid from along the near wall, who passed to Remi Elie, who put the Otters up 3-0 on five shots. Barrie called their time out to regroup.

The time out gave the Colts some momentum with Matthew Kreis getting Barrie on the board. Cordell James brought the Colts within one and Jake Marchment and Michael Webster dropped the gloves seconds later with tension mounting. Kevin Lablanc tied the game not long after, but Nick Baptiste put the Otters back on top with just under five minutes to go, redirecting a Travis Dermott shot from the high slot.

The Otters killed both penalties in the second period before Dylan Strome put Erie up 5-3 after a breakout pass from Maksimovich sent the Otters center on a breakaway. Andrew Mangiapane brought Barrie back within one, but with Rasmus Andersson in the box for cross checking, Kurtis MacDermid made it 6-4 right off the first face off.

DeBrincat started off the third period with a bang, putting the Otters up 7-4 38 seconds in on the man advantage. Less than a minute later, McDavid doubled the Barrie goals from DeBrincat and MacDermid. Labanc gave Barrie their fifth, but the Otters weren't done. Marchment made it 9-5 halfway through the third. Taylor Raddysh put the Otters in the double-digits for the first time this season with two and a half minute to go before tensions boiled over. A scrum in the corner with barely a minute to go sent Andersson, Lemieux, Patrick Fellows and MacDermid to the showers with unsportsmanlike minors and the Otters finished the game with a man advantage.

MacDermid's goal was his ninth of the season and bested his eight goals in the previous three years total. McDavid moves into third in the scoring race as London's Mitchell Marner sits on top with 119 points, Strome with 112, and McDavid with 107. The highest previous goal total for the Otters in a game was 8, coming six times this season. Maksimovich, DeBrincat, Baptiste, Strome, and Dermott all finished the night with three points while McDavid netted five.

The Otters head on the road to face off with the Colts in Barrie Saturday night at 7:30 before traveling to North Bay Sunday.
