Rivermen Host Final 2 Regular Season Home Games

PEORIA - The Peoria Rivermen continue their push to the post-season with their final two home games of the regular season this Friday and Saturday.

The Mississippi RiverKings visit Carver Arena for 7:05 p.m. face-offs both nights. The visitors from suburban Memphis carry a record of 27-17-2 for 56 points, nine points behind the Southern Professional Hockey League-leading Rivermen, who boast a 31-14-3 mark for 65 points.

The Rivermen are 2-3-0 against the RiverKings. The teams split a pair of games in Southaven, Mississippi in their last meetings on Jan. 23 and 24. Of the eight remaining Rivermen games, six will be against Mississippi including the final four games during the last two weekends of March.

The Rivermen are coming off the largest Peoria pro hockey win in nearly 10 years and 750 games, a 9-2 victory over Fayetteville on Sunday. Peoria took two of three games last weekend at Carver Arena over the FireAntz. Mississippi has also won its last two games including a 7-2 home win over Huntsville on Tuesday.

Peoria will be without forward Dan Bremner, who serves the remaining games of a three-game suspension for a major boarding penalty with 23 seconds left in Saturday's 6-3 win over Fayetteville. Forwards Jake Trask and Jordan Sims and defenseman Mike Slowikowski remain on ECHL call-ups and defenseman Christian Weidauer is on the 30-day injured reserve list.

Friday is the annual Heritage Bank Jerseys off the Players' Backs Night with $2 hot dogs and $2 select drafts all night. Saturday is CEFCU Fan Fest and Superheroes Night with Rivermen players available for autographs on the concourse immediately after the game. Tickets start at only $10. Single game tickets for Peoria's 33rd season of professional hockey are on sale weekdays at the Peoria Civic Center.
