Pippins Add Pair from Gonzaga

Yakima Valley Pippins News Release

YAKIMA, Wash. - The Yakima Valley Pippins have signed a pair of Gonzaga Bulldogs, adding pitcher Wyatt Mills and outfielder Branson Trube to the 2015 roster.

2015 will be the second season in the West Coast League for Mills, who spent last summer with the Kelowna Falcons. In 12 relief outings (25 2/3 innings), Mills went 2-2 with a 5.26 ERA. The sophomore right hander from Spokane has made three relief appearances in Gonzaga's first 12 games of the season.

"Wyatt is a super competitor on the mound with a really good three-pitch mix," said Pippins' Manager Marcus McKimmy. "He's already had several appearances in key spots for GU this spring and should continue to be a key contributor for the Zags bullpen this spring. His experience in the WCL is very important because he already has a track record for success and confidence. I am super excited he will no longer be pitching from the other dugout."

Trube, a freshman centerfielder, will play his first WCL season this summer with Yakima Valley. After four successful years at Mountain View High School in Meridian, Idaho, Trube has already appeared in eight games for the Bulldogs, hitting .200 (2-10) with an RBI.

"Branson is a dynamic player who impacts the game immediately with his legs and his arm," said McKimmy. "He projects to be an everyday starter in center field as he matures, having already seen time in 8 of 12 games for GU. I had the privilege of scouting & recruiting Branson during his high school days, and now, I'm excited to watch him develop significantly in a Pippins uniform this summer."
