Nuts to Celebrate 10 Year Anniversary

March 3, 2015 - California League (CalL1)
Modesto Nuts News Release

The Modesto Nuts 2015 season will be a season-long celebration of the franchise name change that occurred prior to the 2005 baseball season. The 10-Year Celebration presented by Save Mart Supermarkets will highlight the best moments of the last ten years as well as highlight the team's sponsors, season ticket holders and employees who have been with the team since the beginning of our nutty journey.

"It's a little hard to believe that we are already celebrating 10 years as the Modesto Nuts," said Executive Vice President Mike Gorrasi. "The decision to rebrand as the Nuts is a major part of our history and one that has certainly changed the direction of our franchise."

The last eight seasons have provided the eight highest attended seasons in the 69-year history of the franchise. Since the 2005 season, the Nuts have also sold out an impressive 89 games. Over 1.6 million fans have attended Nuts game during that span.

To celebrate the anniversary, the Nuts will wear specialty 10th Anniversary jerseys during every home Friday game. The jersey will include the 10th Anniversary logo featuring the number 10 and the three Nuts mascots: Al, Wally and Shelley.

The Nuts will also acknowledge the difficult decision made over 10 years ago to change the name with two What Could Have Been Nights at John Thurman Field.

The name the team contest following the 2004 season led to an intense debate among local fans about the name of the team.

On July 18th, the team will wear specialty Dusters jerseys. Dusters was the runner-up in the Name the Team contest. Specialty caps and merchandise will be available during the game.

On August 14th, the team will wear specialty Cruisers jerseys. While not a finalist during the Name the Team contest, Cruisers was a popular suggestion among the fan base.

"We're excited to celebrate our 10-year anniversary of the Nuts," said Tyler Richardson, General Manager. "We also wanted to take a chance and see what could have been if we went another direction at that time. The staff has had a lot of fun planning these nights and we think the fans will enjoy it too."

All three jerseys (10-Year Anniversary, Dusters and Cruisers) will be auctioned off during the season to raise money for local charities.

The Modesto Nuts home opener is scheduled for Thursday, April 16th against the Inland Empire 66ers. Ticket packages, starting as small as 5 games, are currently available by calling (209) 572-HITS (4487).
