Youngstown Phantoms News Release

YOUNGSTOWN, OH- Today, Youngstown Phantoms head coach Anthony Noreen announced the team has acquired Waterloo Black Hawks forward Tyler Sheehy, in exchange for forward Bryan Lemos, and the Phantoms' second round pick in Phase I of the 2015 USHL Draft, and the Phantoms' second round pick in Phase II of the 2016 USHL Draft.

The Phantoms also acquired veteran defenseman, and team captain Alec Vanko from the Madison Capitols, in exchange for the rights to defenseman Carter Ekberg and the Phantoms' third round selection in Phase II of the 2015 USHL Draft, wrapping up a busy trade deadline day for the Phantoms.

A native of Burnsville, MN, Sheehy has spent parts of four seasons in the USHL with the Black Hawks, accounting for 37 goals and 55 assists for 92 total points in that span. Through 43 games this season, the 19-year old has accounted for 15 goals and 26 assists, for 41 total points. He was instrumental in Waterloo's run to the Clark Cup Final last season, accounting for 15 points (8g, 7a) in 12 games played. Waterloo advanced to Game 5 of the Clark Cup Final, where they fell to the Indiana Ice.

Sheehy is committed to the University of Minnesota following his USHL career

"Tyler Sheehy is an elite forward who was an instrumental piece in an Anderson Cup run as well as a Clark Cup Final appearance last season for Waterloo, and is a proven winner as well as an assistant captain for the Black Hawks," said Phantoms Head Coach Anthony Noreen.

Lemos departs Youngstown having totaled 30 points (12g, 18a) through 43 games played, placing him first amongst the Phantoms' first-year USHL players. He twice had four-game point streaks, including a four-game goal-scoring streak from January 2nd-January 9th. The East Providence, RI, native is committed to Providence College following his USHL career.

"Bryan Lemos was a tremendous Youngstown Phantom, and was a great teammate that had an impact since the moment he arrived in Youngstown," said Noreen. "We wish him the best of luck and have no doubt he has a bright future in front of him."

Hailing from Oregon, WI, Vanko is skating in his second USHL season, having spent the 2013-2014 season with the Chicago Steel. Vanko was one of the leaders of Madison's defensive corps, accounting for a goal and 11 assists, and a team-high plus-10 on-ice rating.

"Alec Vanko is another veteran defenseman who will add experience and offense to our blueline," said Noreen. "Just as important, Alec was the captain of the Madison Capitols, and is another character piece to add to our locker room."

Committed to Minnesota State University, Mankato, Vanko has totaled 41 points (10g, 31a) in 95 career USHL games.

The Phantoms continue their six-game home stand this weekend, when they welcome in the Sioux Falls Stampede to the Covelli Centre. The Phantoms are riding a 10-game winning streak, and are in second place in the USHL's Eastern Conference, one point back of the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders for top spot in the East.
