Moncton Takes Game One After Fourth Quarter Collapse

March 2, 2015 - National Basketball League of Canada (NBL Canada)
Halifax Rainmen News Release

(Halifax,NS): For three quarters the Halifax Rainmen played like a team that had won 10 straight games to finish the regular season, but in the fourth quarter it all collapsed around them as the Moncton Miracles roared back to win game one of the best of five series 111 to 110.

Halifax looked to get off to a quick start, but Moncton was able to keep the contest close thanks to pin-point shooting from beyond the arc through the first 12 minutes of play. The second quarter saw the game remain close, with Moncton continuing their hot three point shooting, until the final two minutes of play in the half when Kevin Young took over and helped create a 14 point seperation heading into the third quarter. With Halifax holding the 61-47 lead, and winning important battles at the free throw line and under the rim, they looked poised to run away with the game. While Moncton continued to be a tough challenge Halifax found away to increase their lead in the third quarter and took an 18 point, 91-73, lead into the final 12 minutes.

Moncton came out strong in the fourth quarter and never let up, capitalizing on Halifax's sloppy play, hurting them with second chance opportunities and continuing hot shooting from three point land. Moncton finally took the lead in the final moments of the game, shutting down the Rainmen offense as they tried to make a final push.

Kevin Young had a double double for the Rainmen with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Liam McMorrow contributed 24 as well, and Tyrone Watson earned 18 points off the bench. The Moncton Miracles were led by Shawn Vanzant who had an impressive 28 points. Daquan Brooks had 25 points and Trayvon Lathan put away 22. Miracles rebounders were led by Shamus Ferguson who had 7 on the night.

Game Two goes tomorrow night inside the Scotiabank Centre at 7pm. Be apart of the action as Halifax looks to tie up the series before heading to Moncton. Tickets are still available at the Scotiabank Centre Box Office, through Ticket Atlantic, or by calling (902)444-7246(RAIN).
