Simpson Stays with Stamps

Calgary Stampeders head coach and general manager John Hufnagel is pleased to announce that international linebacker Juwan Simpson has signed a contract extension. As per team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.
Simpson is a three-time West Division all-star and was defensive captain of the Stamps' 2014 Grey Cup-winning team.
The Decatur, Ala., native started all 18 regular-season games at middle linebacker last season and registered 74 tackles, including four tackles for loss, four sacks and four pass knockdowns. He also started the Western Final and the Grey Cup.
"Juwan has been an integral part of our defence and a valuable presence in our locker room for a number of years and I look for that to continue," said Hufnagel. "The middle linebacker position is key for any team and Juwan provides great stability and productivity for us."
Simpson joined the Stampeders in 2008. After playing defensive end his first two seasons, the University of Alabama alum moved to middle linebacker in 2010 and was the West Division finalist for the CFL's Most Outstanding Defensive player that season. In 103 career regular-season games, Simpson has 368 tackles, 41 special-teams tackles, 22 sacks, two interceptions, eight fumble recoveries, eight forced fumbles and 18 pass knockdowns.
"I couldn't imagine playing anywhere else but Calgary," said Simpson. "I love playing with the guys on this team, especially the group on defence that arrived in Calgary with me in 2008 - Charleston Hughes, Keon Raymond and Brandon Smith. I'm looking forward to the challenge of defending the championship in 2015."
