March 2, 2015 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Owen Sound Attack News Release

The Owen Sound Attack will look to start a new winning streak when they host the Peterborough Petes on Tuesday, Mar. 3.

After having a six game streak snapped by the Erie Otters on Saturday, Feb. 28, the Attack will be looking to return to their winning ways in a game that was originally supposed to be played in early January, but was cancelled due to inclement weather.

The Attack and Petes have met once already on the year, with Owen Sound claiming a 3-1 victory in Peterborough on Jan. 15. Tuesday night's game will have clear playoff implications for both teams, with the Attack holding onto a three point lead over the Kitchener Rangers for 5th in the Western Conference. The Petes have a five point lead over the Mississauga Steelheads for 8th in the Eastern Conference and are two points behind Kingston for 7th.

The Western Conference playoff battle is heating up, with the Attack and Guelph in a fight for the 4th and final home ice spot. Guelph currently sits 5 points ahead of the Attack with 72 points, but Owen Sound has three games in hand. Tuesday's game is one of those, and represents a chance for the Attack to cut into the Storm lead.

Looking to propel Owen Sound closer to home ice advantage in the playoffs are a trio of high powered forwards. Kyle Platzer, Zach Nastasiuk, and Erik Bradford are all setting the pace for the Attack with Platzer and Nastasiuk having registered 70 or more points already on the year, while Bradford has hit 61 points. Defenceman Chris Bigras has also surpassed the 60 point plateau, having tallied 65 points on the year.

In the 2013-2014 season, the Attack did not have a single player reach the 60 point mark, with Holden Cook leading the team with 56 points.

Tuesday's game is slated for a 7:00 pm puck drop, and tickets can be purchased at the DJ's Furniture Attack Box Office, online at www.attackhockey.com, or by calling 519-371-7452.

Fans are reminded that tickets purchased for the originally scheduled game on Wednesday, Jan. 7 are valid for Tuesday's contest.

KEYS TO VICTORY

The Attack saw most of their success on a 6 game winning streak thanks to early starts and hard pressure for a full 60 minutes. Tuesday's game will not be an exception to that rule, and Owen Sound will look to get a forecheck going early on the Petes. As always, special teams will play a large role in the outcome, and the Attack will be at their best when they stay out of the box.

PLAYERS TO WATCH

Eric Cornel, RW, Peterborough Petes

13G, 34A, 58GP

The Peterborough Petes have three players tied for the team lead in points, and one of them is Buffalo Sabres draft pick Eric Cornel. With 47 points on the year, Cornel is helping to pace a struggling Petes team that has had an up and down year. He is a staple for the squad in all game situations and will be a key part of the counter-attack for Peterborough.

Kyle Platzer, C, Owen Sound Attack

29G, 43A, 58GP

Coming into the 2014-2015 season, Platzer had recorded 27 career OHL goals. With 10 games left on the schedule, he has scored more than that in just this year and has developed into an elite centre in the league. Platzer's versatility has allowed him to be a big part of both the power play and penalty kill for the Attack, while also serving on the team's top line. A 4th round pick of the Edmonton Oilers in 2013, Platzer is proving that he can take his game to the next level through hard work and determination.
