Chicago Wolves News Release
ROSEMONT, Ill. - Right wing Shane Harper delivered his 24th and 25th goals of the season to lead the Chicago Wolves to a 4-1 victory over the Milwaukee Admirals on Sunday afternoon in an Amtrak Rivalry game at Allstate Arena.
Forwards Adam Burish and Yannick Veilleux also scored for the Wolves (28-21-5-1) and goaltender Jordan Binnington posted 21 saves as Chicago shrugged off its 5-0 loss to Grand Rapids on Saturday night.
"I'm really proud of how we turned it around," said Wolves coach John Anderson. "I thought our effort was better throughout the game. We played with a lot more confidence throughout. We were getting chance after chance after chance."
The Wolves opened the scoring at 5:03 of the first period when Burish forced the Milwaukee turnover that set up his ninth goal of the season. The Admirals held the puck behind their net and tried to pass it up the ice, but Burish knocked the pass to the left circle for Philip McRae. He centered it quickly to Burish and Ty Rattie in front of the net and Burish whacked it past Milwaukee goaltender Magnus Hellberg.
Milwaukee (29-18-4-4) evened the score with Viktor Stalberg's power-play goal 40 seconds into the second period. Stalberg ripped a shot from the right circle that clanged off the left post, but the sharp rebound hit Binnington's back and banked into the net.
The Wolves turned the 1-1 tie into a 3-1 lead midway through the second period as Harper, who moved into second place among the American Hockey League's goal leaders, scored twice in 4 minutes and 13 seconds.
His spree started at 8:26 of the second when he carried the puck with speed into the offensive zone. Harper juked his way between two defenders and drew a delayed penalty, yet found a way to flip the puck past Hellberg while falling to the ice.
Harper added his other goal at 12:39 of the second when Magnus Paajarvi skated down the left side and slid a pass through the crease to Harper in the right circle. Harper settled the puck, dropped to his right knee to gain leverage and whistled the puck past Hellberg's blocker into the top left corner of the net.
Veilleux pushed the Wolves lead to 4-1 with 56 seconds left in the second. Jani Hakanpaa flicked a wrist shot from the right point that was headed just outside the post, but Veilleux fought off a defender and redirected the puck into the net.
Binnington (19-12-3) earned the win while making his franchise-record 17th consecutive start. Hellberg (14-6-4) stopped 17 of 21 shots in the opening two periods before giving way to Marek Mazanec, who notched 9 saves in the third.
The Wolves battle another Midwest Division foe when they travel to Cleveland to face the Lake Erie Monsters at 6:30 p.m. Friday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Chicago returns to Allstate Arena on Wednesday, March 11, for a 7 p.m. contest against the Utica Comets. To find the best ticket specials, visit ChicagoWolves.com or call 1-800-THE-WOLVES.
