Blast Defeat Lancers 25-23

The Blast traveled to Rochester on Sunday afternoon to take on the Lancers for the regular season finale. In a back and fourth game, Baltimore was able to defeat Rochester 25-23.

The game got off to a fast start with the Lancers scoring just 33 seconds into the game. The Blast were able to answer when Lucas Roque recorded his 21st goal of the season off an assist from Jonathan Melo. Before the end of the quarter the Blast were able to gain the lead when Pat Healey lobbed a pass up the field that Jamie Darvill was able to head into the back of the net. At the end of the first the Blast led 4-2.

The second quarter was full of action with 7 goals recorded. The Lancers tied the game when Mauricio Salles recorded his 40th goal of the season. After 2 more Lancer goals by Stephen Basso and Yakiel Perez the Lancers extended their lead to 4. The Blast answered when Adauto Neto headed a ball into the back of the net and then Lucas Roque hit a 3 point goal to put the Blast back on top, both goals were assisted by Pat Healey. Tony Donatelli also hit a 3 point goal at the 9:56 mark off an assist from Max Ferdinand. This was Donatelli's 19th goal of the season. Before the half Yakiel Perez hit a 3 point goal to pull the Lancers within 1. At the half the Blast led the Lancers 12-11.

In the second half the back and forth action continued. Lucas Roque extended the Blast lead at the 1:35 mark while recording the hat trick. The next three goals would go to the Rochester Lancers; Mauricio Salles scored first then Joey Tavernese recorded back to back goals off Elliott Fauskie assists to put the Lancers back on top 17-14. Before the end of the quarter Lucas Roque recorded his fourth goal of the evening off an assist from goalkeeper Phil Saunders. The Blast went into the final quarter trailing 17-16.

Both teams came out with high intensity during the fourth quarter. Pat Healey was able to give the Blast the lead back when he hit a 3 point power play goal assisted by Max Ferdinand. Moments later at the 2:40 mark Juan Pereria extended the Blast lead with a goal assisted by Adauto Neto. The Lancers would answer scoring 3 consecutive goals including 2 from Joey Tavernese and one from Yakeil Perez, which gave both players hat tricks on the night, as well as giving the Lancers a 23-21 lead. The next two goals of the game would come from the Blast, Vini Dantas tied the game up at the 4:28 mark off an assist from Jamie Darvill and then the Blast leading scorer Lucas Roque recorded his 5th goal of the game and what would be the game winning goal. Roque's goal was assisted by Tony Donatelli and the Blast defense was able to hold off the Lancers 6th attacker to seal the victory. The final score was 25-23.

The Blast finish the regular season 18-2. The Blast were led offensively by Lucas Roque who recorded 5 goals in the game. Pat Healey, who leads the team in assists, recorded 3 on the night to go along with a 3 point goal. The Blast had 7 different players record goals in the victory. Goalkeeper Phil Saunders recorded 20 saves and one assist which was his 5th of the season, he improves to 4-0.

The Blast will return home on Wednesday, March 11th for their playoff game at 7:05p.m. from the Royal Farms Arena. The Blast will face the winner of Syracuse and Rochester for the Division Final.
