Springfield Falcons News Release
Springfield, Mass. - Anton Forsberg and the Springfield Falcons silenced the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, 3-0, tonight at the MassMutual Center.
The Falcons swept back-to-back games with the Sound Tigers this weekend, moving to 32-19-6-0 on the season and maintaining their spot in second in the Northeast Division with 70 points. The Falcons also hold a commanding 5-0-1-0 lead in the eight-game season series and have extended the Sound Tigers' losing streak to eight games.
Falcons goaltender Forsberg earned his third shutout this season, stopping all 22 shots on goal. Sound Tigers goaltender Kevin Poulin turned aside 20 of 23 shots in defeat. Neither team was productive on the power play with Springfield unable to convert on five opportunities and stopping all four Bridgeport man-advantages.
The Falcons took a quick two goal lead in the second half of the first period. After a battle in the corner, Mike Hoeffel received the puck from Thomas Larkin behind the cage and wrapped around to jam home his second goal in as many nights at the 12:35 mark. Sean Collins grabbed a point for assisting on the opening tally.
Collins notched his own just three minutes later to go on a three-game points streak with two goals and two assists. Luke Adam chipped the puck out from behind the cage for Collins to light the lamp from the slot. Hoeffel earned his first multi-point game of the season with the secondary helper.
The Falcons extended their lead with 38 seconds remaining in the middle frame. Domenic Monardo fired a shot from the left circle that was redirected by Michael Chaput for his third goal in two nights against the Sound Tigers. Denny Urban recorded the secondary assist.
An even third period secured a 3-0 shutout victory for the Falcons.
The Falcons now hit the road to face the Portland Pirates on Sunday, March 1 at 3 p.m.
