February 28, 2015 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Regina Pats News Release

Regina, Saskatchewan - The Regina Pats (33-20-4-4) open a home-and-home with the Moose Jaw Warriors (25-31-4-1) at Mosaic Place (7 p.m.) tonight. It's the fifth meeting of the season between the teams with the Pats holding a 3-0-1-0 record. The last times the squads came together saw the Warriors snap a season and a half losing streak against the Pats with a 4-3 overtime win January 23rd. Taylor Cooper leads Regina with six points (2G, 4A) against the Warriors split between Lethbridge and Regina. Brett Howden is the top Warrior with four points (2G, 2A) against Regina. Coming into tonight, the Pats have lost two straight after a 2-1 loss to Medicine Hat last night. The Warriors roll in on a winning note after a 3-1 victory in Saskatoon. Tune into tonight's game on 620 CKRM starting at 6:35 p.m.

Lead Up: Pats Offence Ineffective in Loss to Tigers

The Pats couldn't get anything going against the Tigers last night and Marek Langhammer was there to shut things down when the home side had its chances. After a scoreless first period, Ty Stanton got things going for the Tigers with a pair of goals in the second period. The Pats made things close when Taylor Cooper scored with 1:29 remaining, and almost tied it when Adam Brooks fired the puck off both posts as the Pats fell 2-1.

Stifling While Shorthanded

The Pats' penalty kill has been impressive to say the least in recent games. The Blue and White haven't allowed a powerplay goal in six games while killing 29 straight opportunities. The Pats are up to 80.3% on the season, which is good for 11th in the WHL.

Important Points

It's a perfect example of a four point game tonight between the Pats and Warriors. With a win against Moose Jaw, the Pats can clinch a playoff spot for the third time in four years. Meanwhile the Warriors trail the Edmonton Oil Kings and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference by just seven points

Leading the Way

Taylor Cooper leads the Pats with 24 goals on the season. Not only does the 19-year old forward have an 11 game point streak, but he has goals in four straight games played including the three since he returned from injury.
