Brampton Beast News Release
BRAMPTON, ON - The Brampton Beast announced this week the signing of 6'3", 209-pound defenseman Dean Willmott. Willmott made his professional debut with the Beast in Monday's 5-2 sell-out victory over the Quad City Mallards, playing solid hockey in his own zone and finding his way onto the stat sheet with his first pro penalty. The big defenseman will be relied upon to provide grit and size on a youthful Beast blueline.
Willmott, a Toronto native, joins the Beast after recently finishing his fourth season with the Ryerson Rams CIS University team, where he scored seven points (two goals and five assists) to go along with 10 penalty minutes in 27 games this season. In his four-year university career, Willmott tallied 8 goals,17 assists and 55 PIM in 103 contests, and was selected to the CIS All-Star Team this past season.
Prior to attending university, Willmott spent three years in the Ontario Junior Hockey League with the Seguin Bruins and the Huntsville Otters, scoring 85 points (31 goals, 54 assists) in 147 games. During his last year with the Otters, Willmott was Huntsville's top scoring defenseman and 6th in scoring overall with 33 points (14G 19A) in 50 games.
Catch Willmott in action on Friday, March 6 at 7:30 PM on what will be Star Wars Night at the Powerade Centre, with Beast players wearing unique Star Wars jerseys that will be auctioned after the game. The fun continues on Sunday, March 8 with fans having the opportunity to meet their favourite Brampton Thunder players on Women's Hockey Day beginning at 2:00 pm.
