Alaska Aces News Release

LOVELAND, Colo. - Troy Redmann made 40 saves and stopped four of five shooters to lift the Alaska Aces to a 2-1 shootout victory over the Colorado Eagles before an announced crowd of 5,289 at Budweiser Events Center on Wednesday.

With Alaska missing seven of its top ten scorers (injured reserve or on AHL recall), they opened a five game road trip with a victory while Redmann, facing his former team, improved to 7-1-1 this season. The Aces were supported with back-to-back goals in the shootout from Chris Francis and Tim Coffman and Francis added a goal in the first period. Alaska stayed five points behind the Utah Grizzlies for fourth place in the Pacific Division.

Francis' 18th goal of the season, set up in the slot by Coffman, opened the scoring at 5:03 of the first period on a wrister that soared past Clarke Saunders. Just 1:39 later, Brock Nixon capitalized on a breakaway for his 24th goal of the season to tie the game.

Redmann stabilized the Aces game with 13 saves in the period and the Aces defense responded by holding Colorado without a shot on goal in the first eight minutes of the second period. Alaska also limited Colorado (5th in the ECHL in power play percentage) to three power play chances, and stayed out of the box until Justin Johnson was served with a cross-checking penalty at 9:59 of the second period.

The Aces dodged back-to-back penalties to open the third period and Redmann posted 14 saves in the period. Saunders also had 14 saves in the third period and had to be sharp on Curt Gogol's bid from the slot with less than two minutes remaining in regulation.

Redmann was peppered with seven shots in overtime and saved his best on Kyle Kraemer's deke at the crease after Colorado won an end zone draw. After Redmann stopped Taylor Vause in the first round, Francis fired a snap shot past Saunders in the opening round and Coffman followed with a backhanded deke.

Redmann, after allowing a third round goal to Derek Rodwell, stopped Greg Gardner in the fourth round and sealed the game on Kraemer's forehand bid in the fifth round.

Saunders made 30 saves to take the shootout loss.
