Whitecaps FC Acquire Midfielder Deybi Flores

VANCOUVER, BC - Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today that the club has acquired midfielder Deybi Flores on a one-year loan with a transfer option from Club Deportivo Motagua of the Honduran Liga Nacional - pending receipt of his international transfer certificate, Canadian work permit and visa. Per Major League Soccer and club policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Deybi is a talented young box-to-box midfielder with a big upside," said Whitecaps FC head coach Carl Robinson. "He was one of the top players in the recent CONCACAF U-20 tournament and we are excited to welcome him to our club."
In his first two seasons playing professionally, Flores has started 16 of his 21 appearances with CD Motagua. During that time, the 18-year-old helped the Tegucigalpa club claim the league championship during the 2014-15 Apertura season, starting nine of his 12 appearances. Prior to joining Motagua, Flores played in his hometown of San Pedro Sula with Platense Júnior.
Internationally, the native of San Pedro Sula, Honduras has represented his country at both the U-17 and U-20 national team levels. At the recent 2015 CONCACAF U-20 Championship, Flores played all 90 minutes in each of his five starts and helped Los Catrachos qualify for the 2015 FIFA U-20 World Cup. In 2013, Flores also played for Honduras at the CONCACAF U-17 Championship.
"I'm very excited for this opportunity to come play with a great club like Whitecaps FC," added Flores. "I'm eager to join the team and fight for my spot."
Flores will arrive in Vancouver following receipt of his Canadian work permit and visa.
