South Carolina Stingrays News Release

North Charleston, S.C. - In front of a Pink in the Rink record crowd of 7,385, the South Carolina Stingrays (27-18-1-6) erased a two-goal deficit to defeat the Greenville Road Warriors (28-20-1-2) 5-2 on the 9th Annual Pink in the Rink presented by Trident Health benefiting Share Our Suzy at the North Charleston Coliseum Saturday night. The win sent the Stingrays' season-high winning streak to nine games. Following the contest, the Stingrays generated over $30,000 during the postgame live pink jersey auction.

The Road Warriors opened the scoring with two tallies off the stick off forward Josh Nicholls within the first six minutes of the contest. Nicholls made it 1-0 1:38 into the game catching a lead pass from defenseman Andrew Himelson for a breakaway on Stingrays netminder Jeff Jakaitis (W, 22 saves on 24 shots) and followed up with a great deke around the defense and Jakaitis at 5:41. The Stingrays jumped on the scoreboard at 7:17 when forward Rob Bellamy caught a misplayed puck by Road Warriors goaltender Jason Missiaen (L, 18 saves on 23 shots) behind the net and tossed it into the crease for the easy tap-in for forward Wayne Simpson.

The Stingrays carried the scoring into the second period, lighting the lamp three times to take a 4-2 lead into the intermission. Forward Rob Ricci tied the contest at 3:52 tipping a pass from forward Andrew Rowe between the legs of Missiaen. At 9:15, forward Derek DeBlois smashed in his 12 goal of the season off the right post to give the Stingrays the lead with help from Rowe and Ricci. Late in the frame, Rowe setup Ricci for his second of the game firing a shot from the right-wing circle with Ricci tucking in the rebound at 16:26. Defenseman Michael Young added the second assist.

In the third period, forward Joe Devin sealed the victory for the Stingrays completing a 2-on-1 rush with Bellamy at 15:14. The Stingrays went 0-for-2 on the power play while the Road Warriors went 0-for-3.
