Ruopp Assigned to Wheeling by Penguins

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - The Pittsburgh Penguins have assigned defenseman Harrison Ruopp from the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins to the Wheeling Nailers (ECHL), it was announced today.

A second-year pro from Zehner, Saskatchewan, Ruopp has appeared in two games this season for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and also registered one assist and 43 penalty minutes over 21 matches with the Nailers.

The 21-year-old posted 34 penalty minutes in 21 games with the Penguins last season, while recording three assists and 42 PIM in 19 games for Wheeling.

Prior to beginning his professional career, Ruopp played in 214 games over four seasons (2009-2013) with the Prince Albert Raiders of the Western Hockey League, totaling 34 points (3G-31A) and 395 penalty minutes.

Originally selected by the Phoenix Coyotes in the third round (84th overall) of the 2011 NHL Draft, Ruopp was acquired by the Pittsburgh Penguins on June 22, 2012.

The Penguins complete the four-game homestand tonight when they take on the Providence Bruins in front of a sold-out Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza at 7:05 p.m.
