Americans Defeat Silvertips in Shootout

Everett, WA- Down by a goal going into the third period, the Tri-City Americans (27-29-0-3, 57 pts) came from behind once again at Xfinity Arena, defeating the Everett Silvertips (35-16-3-4, 77 pts) 2-1 in a shootout in front of 5,543 fans on Friday night.

The teams traded chances throughout the first period, and Everett was able to get on the board 14:26 into the first period. Carson Stadnyk fired a shot that found the back of the net to make it 1-0. Everett outshot Tri-City 12-11 in the period and had the lead going into the second period.

In the second, the Silvertips had the 8-6 shot lead in the period. Neither team could score as both goalies held strong in between the pipes, with the Americans looking to get on the board and into the game in the third period.

Tri-City pressed in the third period to get the tying goal, and the effort finally paid off late in the third. Parker Wotherspoon fired a shot through traffic that found its way into the goal to even the score at one. The Americans and Silvertips couldn't find a winner in regulation, forcing the game into overtime.

No goals were scored in overtime, sending the game to a shootout. Tyler Sandhu scored on the first shootout attempt, beating Austin Lotz with a quick deke and backhand finish. Eric Comrie stopped all three Everett shooters to help the Americans earn the two points.

The Americans snap a three game losing streak and now have the edge in the series against the Silvertips, 5-4, with one game remaining during the regular season in Kennewick.

Tri-City and Everett both spent 11 minutes in the penalty box, and neither team could convert any of its two power play chances.

Eric Comrie stopped 30 shots in the win, while Austin Lotz made 26 saves in the loss.

The Americans will return home and be back in action against the Calgary Hitmen (35-18-1-4, 75 pts) this Saturday, Feb. 21, at the Toyota Center. Game time is at 7:05 p.m. The Americans won the only meeting between the two teams last season, 4-1, in Calgary.
