Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

PENSACOLA, FL - The Pensacola Ice Flyers let a 3-1 third period lead slip away and fall to the Fayetteville FireAntz in an eight-round shootout at the Pensacola Bay Center on Friday night.

Just as the night before, Fayetteville was on the board first with Austin Daae's goal from Chad Hohmann halfway through the opening period. Over four minutes later, Ice Flyers' Nick Larson tallied a power play goal from Adam Pawlick and Steve Bergin making it a 1-1 game. Twenty-one seconds later Brett Lutes put Pensacola in control of the game with a goal to make it 2-1 to end the first.

The only score in the second period came when Larson's lead pass to Pawlick sent Adam flying down the ice who then ripped it past Kevin Murdock to give the Ice Flyers a two-goal lead at the 2:55 mark.

7:37 into the third, Fayetteville moved back within one with Josh McQuade's goal going high, glove side on Max Strang. It was only twenty-two seconds after that Randy Cameron tied the game up unassisted.

The game couldn't be settled in regulation or the five-minute three-on-three overtime period and had to be settled in a shootout. It was a goalie clinic on both ends from Strang and Murdock as the first seven rounds went scoreless. It wasn't until the eighth round that Derek Elliott netted a goal. Jon Puskars effort to keep Pensacola in it came up short and the Ice Flyers would fall in the shootout to the FireAntz and walk away with one point.

With the shootout loss, Pensacola now holds a record of 22-13-6 for 50 points and are tied for third with Columbus as the Cottonmouths earned two points over the Havoc tonight in Georgia.

Both teams meet again at the Bay Center on Saturday for Military Appreciation Night presented by Pen Air Federal Credit Union. All active/retired military get a 50% off discount for center-ice seats including family and friends. Puck drops at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are on sale at the Rodizio Grill Box Office at the Bay Center and online at ticketmaster.com.
