Blast Defeat Mustangs 24-0

The Blast faced off against the Chicago Mustangs for the first time this season on Friday night. In a game dominated by the Blast, Baltimore was able to defeat the Chicago 24-0.

The game got off to a fast start with the Blast scoring 3 goals in the first quarter. Jonathan Melo got the scoring started when he scored his 9th goal of the season assisted by Adauto Neto. At the 4:45 mark Onua Obasi scored off an assist from Lucas Roque to put the Blast up by 4. Before the end of the quarter Diego Zuniga was also able to find the back of the net when he broke away down the side of the field and was able to score from a tough angle. At the end of the first the Blast led 6-0.

In the second the Blast defense was able to hold the Mustang offense scoreless while adding a goal to their lead. At the 3:17 mark Adauto Neto was able to score his 7th goal of the season off an assist from Pat Healey. At the half the Blast lead the Mustangs 8-0.

The second half began the same way the first half ended with the Blast limiting Mustang scoring chances while still finding ways to score. Team goals leader Lucas Roque found the back of the net just 33 seconds into the quarter assisted by Lucas Roque. At the 5:08 mark Tony Donatelli, who leads the Blast in points, scored his 13th goal of the season assisted by Lucas Roque. Moments later the Blast extended their lead to 14 when Adauto Neto recorded his second goal of the assisted by Max Ferdinand and then Tony Donatelli recorded his second goal as well with under a minute remaining in the quarter assisted by Vini Dantas. The Blast went into the final quarter leading 16-0.

During the fourth quarter the scoring continued as Lucas Roque recorded his second goal of the game during a Blast power play off an assist from Tony Donatelli. Vini Dantas contributed to the offense with a goal of his own at the 8:16 mark assisted by Tony Donatelli. Lucas Roque completed the hat trick at the 9:44 mark for his 19thoff an assist from Onua Obasi. Vini Dantas was able to add another goal for his second of the quarter assisted by Jonathan Melo. To compliment the offensive outburst the Blast defense was able to hold strong to preserve their 4th shutout of the season. The final score was 24-0.

The Blast move to 15-2 on the season. The Blast were led offensively by Lucas Roque who recorded a hat trick and added to assists for a 5 point night. Tony Donatelli and Adauto Neto also contributed with 2 goals each. The Blast defense recorded 7 blocks including 4 by the MASL leading shot blocker Pat Healey and goalkeeper William Vanzela recorded 6 saves in his seond shutout in a row for his 4th of the season.

The Blast are home again tomorrow night for their regular season home finale against the Harrisburg Heat at 6:05 p.m. at the Royal Farms Arena.
