Allen Americans News Release
Independence, Missouri - The Allen Americans play the Missouri Mavericks tonight for the final time on the road in the regular season. Allen is 3-0 this season at Independence Events Center. Puck drop is at 7:05 pm.
The Allen Americans are on a two-game losing streak, having dropped two straight at home this week to Quad City and Wichita.
Allen has a 7-0 record against the Missouri Mavericks this season, outscoring Missouri 29-7 in seven games, that includes a 6-0 shutout on November 26th.
"Were going to need a good solid team effort from the opening puck drop," said Americans Assistant Coach Erik Adams. "When you lose players to the AHL it gives other guys a chance to play a bigger role."
Chad Costello leads the ECHL with 81 points, 25 goals and 56 assists. Costello became the Americans all-time single season assists leader on Wednesday night, passing Colton Yellow Horn who had 55 helpers in the 2010-2011 season.
Gary Steffes had two goals on Wednesday night for Allen. Steffes' 33 goals is now tied for second on the Americans all-time list for goals in a single season, with Colton Yellow Horn from the 2010-2011 season. Steffes is one goal away from tying Bruce Graham and Nino Musitelli (34) in 2010-2011.
Goalie J.P. Anderson was assigned to Allen yesterday by the Americans AAA affiliate Worcester. Anderson will get the start in net for Steve Martinson's club. Riley Gill did not make the trip to Missouri. Gill was put on reserve yesterday by Allen. Josh Trimberger was signed as an emergency backup and will be on the bench this evening, backing up Anderson.
The Americans loaned three players to the American Hockey League this week; Ian Schultz was loaned to the Iowa Wild, while Greger Hanson was loaned to Oklahoma City. Spencer Asuchak is back with the Providence Bruins for a second stint. Allen currently has five players in the AHL with Rylan Schwartz and Aaron Dell both on the Worcester Sharks roster.
The Americans are back home on Sunday to play Tulsa at 4:05 pm, on Faith & Family Day. Buy seats online at www.ticketmaster.com .
