Colorado Eagles to Hold Fourth "Pot of Gold" Community Fundraiser

February 20, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Colorado Eagles News Release

LOVELAND, Colo. - The Colorado Eagles, proud affiliate of the NHL's Calgary Flames and Adirondack Flames of the AHL, are proud to bring back the "Pot of Gold" fundraiser on Saturday, March 7th in the game against the Bakersfield Condors. This community fundraising program is centered around the St. Patrick's Day holiday in which the organization spearheads efforts to help change the luck of a local family in need. This annual event was able to raise over $41,000 for last year's recipient, Wesley Martin, a 10-year old boy from Greeley who was diagnosed with a cyst on his brain when he was only an infant and required a major surgery that the family's insurance did not cover. Since the Pot of Gold fundraiser Wesley's family has been able to seek other medical opinions and treatment options and he is doing well!

This year, the Eagles will help raise money for eight -year- old Parker Hobbs, who was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia at Poudre Valley Hospital in October of 2013 and began receiving treatments, including heavy chemotherapy, spinal taps and steroid treatments, at Children's Hospital in Denver. In April of 2014 the family was informed that their insurance would no longer be covering Parker's treatments. This forced the family to begin paying for treatments themselves over the next three years, which in-turn devastated them with heaps of hospital bills. Parker has since rolled into the "maintenance" phase of his treatment but the family continues to struggle with the bills that were accumulated during his three years of treatments. Fans have the opportunity to help the Hobbs family during the Pot of Gold game by donating funds that will be collected with the help of the Weld and Larimer County Sheriff's Offices, as well as bidding on one of the coveted specialty jerseys from that night.

Just like last year, donations will be collected from fans in attendance on March 7th by members of Larimer County and Weld County Sheriff's offices who will be stationed throughout the Budweiser Events Center collecting money in their green pots. In addition, the Eagles will be wearing Irish themed jerseys which will be up for bid on the concourse until the start of the third period. The jerseys also feature a shoulder patch with the Lucky Joe's logo in recognition of the local business' support of the Pot of Gold program. This year's jerseys are extra-special; as they have been designed by the Eagles very own star-forward Taylor Vause.

The Eagles have also set up a special ticket offer in which $7 from select ticket purchases will be directly donated to the Hobbs family. If fans would like to help raise money by simply buying a ticket to the game, they can click here or mention Pot of Gold when calling the Eagles' office at (970) 686-SHOT (7468); select seating areas only.
