Bridgeport Bluefish News Release

(Bridgeport, Conn. - February 20, 2015 ) - The Bridgeport Bluefish today announced the signing of outfielder Jiwan James. James joins the Bluefish for his Atlantic League debut during his eighth year of professional baseball.

"Jiwan is a young, talented ballplayer," says Bluefish manager Ricky VanAsselberg. "He adds many intangibles, including speed and defense. We look forward to his contributions this season."

Last season, the outfielder appeared in nine games as a member of Double-A Reading (Phillies) of the Eastern League, where he collected a .333 batting average in 21 at-bats. The 25-year-old spent his entire minor league career as a member of the Phillies organization, peaking at the Double-A level. Over the course of 466 games, he owns a .265 batting average with 256 runs scored, 78 doubles, 17 home runs, 161 RBI and 87 stolen bases.

James was originally drafted as a pitcher by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 22nd round of the 2007 amateur draft. He spent only one year on the mound before an injury forced the five-tool prospect to convert to the outfield.

The Bridgeport Bluefish are members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. For further information, call 203-210-BLUE (2583) or visit BridgeportBluefish.com.
