Belleville Bulls News Release

PETERBOROUGH, ON - The Belleville Bulls travelled to Peterborough for another pivotal match up against their East Division rivals. Just six points separated the two teams in the OHL's Eastern Conference standings prior to puck drop. The Petes opened the scoring early in the second period and didn't look back as they shut out the Bulls 3-0 in front of 2,615 fans.

The first period at the Peterborough Memorial Centre was fairly even. Teams exchanged penalties early on but neither club could capitalize on the man advantage. The Petes had the only quality scoring chance when Buffalo Sabers prospect Eric Cornel stepped over the blue line and hammered a slap shot that hit the cross bar. Shots favoured the home team 14-10 after the first 20 minutes of play.

Peterborough picked up the pace to begin the second period. Just under a minute in, over age left-winger Nathan Pancel potted a one timer for his 21st of the season drawing an assist from Cornel. The Pete's continued to apply the pressure about seven minutes later when Cobourg Ontario native Josh Maguire buried his 5th of the season. The goal appeared to be kicked in but was deemed a good goal after review. Forwards Josh Coyle and Jonathan Ang were credited with the assists.

Teams traded penalties late in the stanza but once again, neither club couldn't find the back the net on the power play. The Petes led 29-18 in shots at the end of the second frame.

At 15:38 in the third period, 1995-born left-winger Greg Betzold added one more for his squad un assisted. Peterborough snaps Belleville's two game win streak as they earn a very important two points on home ice. Matthew Mancina, who made 30 saves, picks up his 3rd shutout in a Petes uniform. His counterpart, Charlie Graham made 39 saves.

With the loss the Bulls fall to 23-26-5-3. The Petes now jump ahead of the 7th place Kingston Frontenacs in the Eastern Conference.
