Jr. Blues Get Board Approval
February 19, 2015 - North American Hockey League (NAHL)
Springfield Jr. Blues News Release
It's official. The Jr. Blues will be rocking the Nelson Center for at least three more years.
Owner Dan Ferguson announced tonight the Springfield Park Board has approved a new, three-year licensing agreement.
Ferguson says the agreement is very similar to the current three-year deal, which expires on May 1st. The current agreement was signed after the North American Hockey League approved Ferguson's application for ownership of the Springfield membership in April 2012.
Ferguson says "I have been working on this for about a year with Bruce Blanshan, the general manager of the Nelson Center, and the Park District Board. We wanted to take our time in the process to ensure we reached a fair and equitable license for both parties."
One of the big aspects of the negotiations was the operation of the concession stands which the Jr. Blues will continue to operate the stands for both public Nelson Center events and Jr. Blues' games.
The Jr. Blues are the oldest-continuing franchise in the NAHL, having operated since 1993. They play the North Division-leading Janesville Jets Friday and Saturday. Get tickets in advance at County Markets and both Springfield YMCAs.
