Giants Defeat Warriors in OT

February 18, 2015 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Vancouver Giants News Release

Mason Geertsen scored twice, including the overtime winner, as the Vancouver Giants defeated the Moose Jaw Warriors 3-2 on Hooky Day at the Pacific Coliseum. Thomas Foster had a goal for Vancouver in the win.

Neither team scored in the first period, but Jack Rodewald broke the deadlock less than a minute into the middle frame to put the Warriors on the board. Foster tied the game for Vancouver on a power play later in the period when he threw a puck to the front of the net from down low, and it found its way past Moose Jaw goalie Brody Willms. Geertsen put the Giants ahead in the final minute of the stanza, scoring on a shot from the top of the left circle.

Spenser Jensen scored in the third period for the Warriors to force overtime, but Geertsen ended the game at 4:11 of the extra period when Tyler Benson found him alone in the slot with a great pass from below the goal line, and Geertsen buried the shot to give Vancouver the two points on the afternoon.

The Giants will be back in action on Friday when they head south of the border to visit the Portland Winterhawks. The face-off is set for 7:00pm.

Vancouver will be back on the ice at the Pacific Coliseum on Saturday when the Kamloops Blazers come to town. Puck drop will be at 7:00pm. For tickets, visit VancouverGiants.com or call 604-4-GIANTS (604-444-2687).
