Brazos Valley Bombers News Release

Bryan-College Station, TX (February 18, 2015) - The Brazos Valley Bombers are excited to announce the addition of four players from the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) to the Bombers roster for the 2015 season.

Andre Shewcraft and Matt Hilston, returning to the Bombers after the 2014 season, will be joined by newcomers Geonte Jackson and Chance Kirby as the team prepares to defend the Texas Collegiate League (TCL) Championship title for the third year in a row.

"We are fortunate that UTSA is letting us have four of their top players," said Curt Dixon, Bombers head coach. "We look forward to having them in our lineup."

Sophomore Andre Shewcraft, a right-handed pitcher (RHP) from Pearland, Texas, is set to bring his talent and experience to the Bombers for the second year in a row. In his previous season with the Bombers, Shewcraft was named to the 2014 TCL All-Star Team while pitching a 1.96 ERA with 31 strikeouts in 37.2 innings.

"We are excited to have Shewcraft back," Dixon said. "He was a big part of our success last year, look for him to play another big role in our pitching staff."

Redshirt junior outfielder, Matt Hilston, will return to the Brazos Valley to suit up in Bomber-blue for the team's 2015 season. During his 2014 season with the Bombers, Hilston was named to the 2014 TCL All-Star Team and was ranked second on the Bombers roster in hits and at-bats.

"Getting Matt back this upcoming season was a big piece of the puzzle in the recruiting process," stated Dixon. "I look for him to be a leader and an anchor down the outfield."

Geonte Jackson posted team highs in hits and games played during his time at San Jacinto College in 2013. Jackson will play his first season with the Bombers after finishing up his debut season at UTSA in 2015.

"Jackson is a very polished hitter that has a lot of power," Dixon said. "He is a true corner infielder, his versatility will be great to have."

The final UTSA player set to arrive in the Brazos Valley this summer is Austin,Texas native Chance Kirby. Kirby is a freshman RHP who had an outstanding 2014 season at Hyde Park Baptist High School. As a senior at Hyde Park, Kirby tossed two no-hitters and posted an impressive 10-1 record with a .72 ERA and 130 strikeouts.

"Chance is what we look for in pitchers," Dixon said. "He commands three pitches in zone at any count, can start or come out of the pen, and is a big time competitor on the mound."

The Bombers will begin their season in the Woodlands against the Strykers on May 28. Opening day is set for June 2 against the East Texas PumpJacks after securing a record of 10-3 against the PumpJacks in 2014.
