Halifax Rainmen News Release

The Halifax Rainmen picked up their sixth consecutive victory Monday afternoon with a 110-101 win over the London Lightning. Halifax moves to 16-12 in the Atlantic Division, good for second place, with just four games remaining in the regular season.

Halifax continued their hot play in the first quarter, getting three point shots to fall in their favour early to open a wide 33-16 lead at the end of 12 minutes. Despite being down by as many as 20 points London were able to chip away at the Halifax lead, putting together a seven point run in the second quarter, and finishing the half with momentum on their side. Taking a 56-43 lead into the second half Halifax struggled to find the same energy they had in the first quarter, allowing London to claw back within nine at the end of third, 81-72. In the fourth quarter neither team seemed to find their rhythm early on, with Halifax maintaining a ten point advantage throughout. Despite pressure from the Lightning late in the quarter Halifax was able to pick up some key fouls and finish the game with two solid dunks from Kevin Young and Jermaine Dailey.

Halifax was led in scoring by Jermaine Dailey, who had 19 points on the afternoon. Joey Haywood continued his solid play, netting 18 points, and Kevin Young put in 16 points. Dailey and Tyrone Watson led the Rainmen in rebounds with 8 each. The London Lightning were led by Brent Jennings who put up 36 points in defeat. Marvin Phillips pulled down 8 rebounds for the Lightning.

Halifax is back in action inside the Scotiabank Centre on Friday, February 20th at 7pm when they take on the Mississauga Power in the EastCoast Lifestyle Game. This will be Mississauga's only visit to Halifax during the regular season. Tickets are available at the Scotiabank Centre Box Office, through Ticket Atlantic or by visiting www.rainmenbasketball.ca.
