Syracuse Crunch News Release

NORFOLK, Va. - William Karlsson scored twice for the Norfolk Admirals (21-24-3-2), including the overtime game-winner during 3-on-3 action, to defeat the Syracuse Crunch (29-13-8-0), 2-1, Saturday at the Norfolk Scope in the teams' final meeting. The standings point keeps Syracuse atop the Northeast Division, two points shy of the conference lead, but winless in five games.

Emerson Etem created the overtime chance, forcing the puck down the slot. Karlsson followed the play with a right-wing shot and- following an initial save from Kristers Gudlevskis- tucked it home from the right goal line 3:33 into the extra frame. Each side had four shots in overtime, including a one-on-none chance for Vladislav Namestnikov.

Artem Sergeev started the scoring 5:19 into the first period when his centering pass deflected off of Mark Fistric's skate and slid into the back of the net. Sergeev's first AHL goal of the season in four games ended a Crunch scoreless slump at 136:55. Carter Ashton recorded his first point with Syracuse with an assist on the goal and J.P. Cote got the secondary assist, his sixth of the season.

Sergeev took an interference penalty six minutes into the second period that set up Karlsson's game-tying goal. With 13 seconds left on the man advantage, Stefan Noesen fed the left-wing circle and Karlsson deposited the game-tying marker. Norfolk finished 1-for-4 on the power-play, and Syracuse went empty handed on two opportunities.

Most of the third period elapsed with one shot for each side. An Admirals burrst led to 5-1 shots advantage for the frame, while the Crunch were held to a season low. Norfolk finished with 26 shots to Syracuse's 21.

Gudlevskis made 24 saves in the overtime loss, including a penalty shot by Max Friberg in the final seconds of the second period. The loss is his second in overtime this season and drops his record to 15-8-2. Jason LaBarbera stopped 20 of 21 Crunch shots for his seventh win of the season.

The Crunch play their third three-in-three of the season with home games against Albany Friday and Binghamton Saturday before traveling to Rochester on Sunday.
