Pensacola Holds on for 3-1 Win against Columbus

The Columbus Cottonmouths tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Pensacola Ice Flyers would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-1.
A goal by Keegan Flaherty put Pensacola up 3-0 in the third period, but Columbus pulled to within two on Matt Gingera's tally 13:55 into the third period.
The Ice Flyers were led by goalie Max Strang, who finished with 37 saves while allowing one goal. Strang managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.2 prior to the game.
Pensacola excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. By firing 27 shots on goal, the Ice Flyers exceeded the 23.6 shots they average per game this year.
Pensacola was helped by Brett Lutes, who had one goal. Lutes scored on the power play 3:16 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Pensacola. Adam Pawlick picked up the assist. Nick Larson also scored for Pensacola. In addition, Pensacola received assists from Corey Banfield, who had two and Nick McParland and Brett Beebe, who each chipped in one.
The Cottonmouths' offense rang up 38 shots on the Ice Flyers' net.
Other players who recorded assists for Columbus were Bryce Williamson, who had one.
Pensacola incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Shannon Szabados made 24 saves for Columbus on 27 shots. The Cottonmouths incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
