Colorado Mammoth News Release
DENVER - In a West Division clash of first place against second on Friday night at Pepsi Center, it was a tale of first half versus second between the Colorado Mammoth and Edmonton Rush on Zombie Night in a game won by the visitors, 11-7.
"I thought we came out strong in the first half, battled hard, played our game, stuck to the game plan," said Mammoth coach Chris Gill. "The wheels kind of fell off in the second half."
The Mammoth scored two goals in the final three minutes of the second quarter to seize a 6-5 advantage at the intermission. Then, the offense went dormant.
Colorado was held scoreless in the third quarter, finally getting on the board 13:48 into the fourth.
"They're the best defense in the league for a reason," said Mammoth forward Sean Pollock of the Rush. "I think they have one of the best goalies in the league. If you don't work, you're not going to be successful. Our offense cost us the game."
Dillon Ward made 34 saves in the loss. Aaron Bold denied 31 Mammoth shots.
The teams are back at it on Sunday in Edmonton at 2pm MT with the winner owning the outright division lead.
