Portland Winterhawks News Release

The Portland Winterhawks (32-20-1-3) exploded for six goals in the second period en route to a 7-1 win over the Tri-City Americans (26-27-0-3) Friday at Veterans Memorial Coliseum in front of 8,103 fans.

The Americans opened the scoring on a goal by Jordan Topping 3:19 into the game for a 1-0 lead, the lone goal of the first.

The deficit didn't last long into the second, as the Hawks' offense ignited and struck for three goals in a span of 1:45 early in the period, and six total in the frame, while outshooting the Americans 22-5.

Portland got on the board 4:24 into the second when Dominic Turgeon was stationed in front of the net, gathered the puck and slid it past Tri-Cities netminder Eric Comrie to even it at 1-1. Just 1:07 after Turgeon's goal, Oliver Bjorkstrand scored his 38th goal of the season and gave Portland a 2-1 lead, and he followed that goal up with another just 38 seconds later to give the Hawks a 3-1 lead.

Portland didn't let up, and made it 4-1 when Chase De Leo scored at 12:04 for his 28th goal of the season. Just 1:38 later defenseman Josh Hanson wound up and fired a blast from the point that beat Comrie for his first goal of the season and a 5-1 Portland lead. They added one more when Miles Koules scored at the 17:24 mark for a 6-1 lead they took into the third.

De Leo scored his second of the game at the 13:26 mark for a 7-1 lead, which stood as the final.

Koules led the Hawks with three points in the win, while Bjorkstrand, De Leo, Blake Heinrich, Nic Petan, Brendan De Jong and Evan Weinger all had two points apiece. For De Jong, it was the first multi-point game of his career.

Adin Hill got the win in net for the Hawks with 18 saves on 19 shots, while Comrie allowed seven goals on 48 Portland shots.
