Ice Bears Hold off Late Louisiana Comeback

Louisiana IceGators News Release

Knoxville, Tenn. - Inconsistency is beginning to become a consistent problem for the Louisiana IceGators.

Sloppy and undisciplined play cost Louisiana once again Friday night, as they gave up the first four goals of the night en route to a 4-3 loss to the Knoxville Ice Bears. Josh Cousineau led the Ice Bears with two goals.

The teams meet again Saturday night in the Knoxville Civic Center. Game time is set for 7:35 p.m. EDT.

"Once again, we had two horrendous periods and one period of playing our system, and it wasn't enough," said IceGators head coach Drew Omicioli. "I'm disappointed beyond belief with our performance, and until we can put three periods together, we will remain being in close games. Overall, it was a poor performance."

Knoxville took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission thanks to a Dennis Sicard goal at the 10:31 of the opening frame.

The Ice Bears blew open the game in the second period.

Francis Drolet put Knoxville up by two at the 7:37 mark of the frame. Cousineau tacked on his two scores at 9:34 and 13:48 to put the Ice Bears ahead 4-0.

Louisiana attempted a comeback in the last half of the game.

Kirk Byczynski put Louisiana on the board with 3:44 left in the second period. Jeremy Boyer and Chris Wilson put the IceGators within a goal of a tie 11 minutes into the third period, but that's as close as they would come to forcing overtime.

Omicioli placed the blame on his entire team for the shoddy performance, and says their play must improve immediately.

"Our guys must believe that if they play three periods of solid hockey that they will win and win big," Omicioli said. "Goaltending in the last two games has also been hurting us. We need to figure out who can win hockey games for us."

"The inconsistency is hurting us."
