Regina Pats News Release

Regina, Saskatchewan - The Regina Pats (30-18-4-3) met with the Swift Current Broncos (26-24-1-4) in an important stretch drive matchup and suffered a 5-0 loss on home ice.

The opening minutes saw the Pats pepper Landon Bow with help from an early powerplay. With the shots 8-2 Regina, the Broncos turned the table when Glenn Gawdin put a perfect pass in front of Jay Merkley who tipped the puck by Daniel Wapple at the seven minute mark. The Pats wound up putting 14 shots toward Landon Bow in the frame, but the Broncos netminder turned them all away. Swift Current challenged Wapple 8 times in the first.

The second period put the Broncos firmly in the driver seat. Shortly after the Pats' period opening powerplay expired, Max Lajoie's shot from the point was redirected by Gawdin and Colby Cave in front and to the back of the net for a 2-0 Swift Current lead. Just 34 seconds later, Cavin Leth wired a shot wide of the net that came off the back wall and to the stick of Tanner LeSann who made good on the opportunity. With the visitors up 3-0, their captain added to the lead just three minutes later. Cave trucked in one-on-one and fired a shot that Wapple thought he had trapped against his body. The puck was loose in the crease and Cave powered his way in and tapped it to the back of the net. The goal would end Wapple's night after allowing four goals on fifteen shots. Tyler Brown stepped in to make nine saves the rest of the period while Bow turned aside 31 shots through the first forty minutes.

The third period saw the Pats try to build some offensive pressure, but after spending most of the first five minutes in the offensive zone the Broncos added to their lead. Coda Gordon got the puck ahead on an odd man rush and spied Cave in front and the Broncos captain went to the backhand for his hat-trick goal. Swift Current had an opportunity to add to the lead in the third with a 5-on-3 advantage, but the Pats penalty kill would hold the score. Despite 44 shots on goal, the Pats couldn't solve Landon Bow as the Broncos took the 5-0 victory.

The Pats are right back in action Saturday night in Prince Albert as they face off against the Raiders. Catch the game live on 620 CKRM and WHL Live Web TV starting at 6:35 p.m.
