Pensacola Ice Flyers News Release

COLUMBUS, GA. (February 13, 2015) - The Pensacola Ice Flyers move within one point of the fifth place Cottonmouths with their 3-1 victory on the road in Columbus on Friday night in front of the 2,297 in attendance at the Columbus Civic Center.

It only took fifty-one seconds following the opening face-off for the Ice Flyers to get on the board with a goal by Nick Larson from Corey Banfield and Nick McParland. Pensacola's Max Strang had a very strong first period as he turned away 18 shots faced from Columbus and the Ice Flyers would take their 1-0 lead into the first intermission.

A late double-minor roughing penalty to Columbus' Chris Bailer would carry over into the start of the second period. With just thirty-seven seconds left on the power play, Brett Lutes would find the back of the net from Adam Pawlick and Banfield to make it a two-goal for the Ice Flyers. Pensacola's defense held strong allowing only four shots to reach Strang in the period.

It was an end-to-end, back-and-forth battle or the first half of the third. Brett Beebe would fire a shot on Shannon Szabados and Keegan Flaherty followed up on the rebound to score and extend the Ice Flyers lead to 3-0 with 9:21 left in regulation.

With 6:05 left, Matt Gingera would erase Strang's potential shutout with a goal to put the Cottonmouths within two of the Ice Flyers. Columbus' energy picked up following the goal as they would put an additional 8 shots on net, but the Ice Flyers would hold on to their 3-1 and earn their two points on the road.

The Cottonmouths outshot Pensacola 38 to 27.

The Ice Flyers are now 19-13-5 and remain in sixth place in the SPHL with 43 points right behind Columbus with 44 points.

Pensacola will be back on the road this Sunday as they travel to Huntsville to take on the Havoc. Puck drops at 5:05 p.m. You can watch all away games live at Beef O Brady's in downtown Pensacola or 9 Mile Road.
