Worcester Bravehearts Add Roster Depth, Sign Nine Players

The Worcester Bravehearts today announced the signing of nine more players to the 2015 team that begins play on June 4th. Six of the players are either currently playing for or will be joining NCAA Division I programs.

The Bravehearts have recruited two players currently pitching at LIU-Brooklyn for Head Coach Alex Trezza, who was also the Bravehearts' Sirst manager in team history last season. Bobby Maxwell (Minisink Valley HS / Otisville, NY) and Chas Lacko (Farmingdale HS / Framingdale, NY) will join the Worcester pitching staff after competing this spring in the Northeast Conference.

Maxwell, a sophomore, earned four varsity letters in baseball and swimming in high school and was the 2013 Varsity845/NYS Section 9 Player of the Year. He led the LIU-Brooklyn Blackbirds with 13 starts and compiled 65.2 innings pitched for the team in 2014. Lacko is a 6'6" junior who pitched in seven games and won two for the Blackbirds in 21.1 innings pitched in 2014.

Two talented left-handed starting pitchers will be spending their summer in Worcester. Nick Morton (Crespi Carmelite HS / Burbank, CA) of Butler University and Adam Bleday (Titusville HS / Titusville, PA) of the University of Pennsylvania have signed with the Bravehearts. Morton is a junior who will be competing in the Big East Conference with the Bulldogs this spring. He spent 2014 at Fullerton Junior College and was named Second Team All-Orange Empire Conference with a 7-2 record, 81 innings pitched and four complete games, 56 strikeouts and a 2.89 ERA. Adam Bleday is currently a sophomore at Gulf Coast State College in Panama City, FL where he Sired a 5- inning no-hitter in his Sirst start on January 31st. He will be transferring to Penn in the fall. He was previously signed by and pitched for the University of Virginia as a freshman in 2014, but competed for playing time in one of the deepest pitching staffs in the nation.

The Bravehearts have renewed their great relationship with Saint Leo University in Florida by signing three members of the team to play in Worcester this summer. The university boasts one of the top Division II baseball programs in the country and is also the alma mater of West Boylstonresident, Bravehearts' Advisory Board member, and NY Mets executive, J.P. Ricciardi.Pitchers Dylan Collett (Guilderland HS / Albany, NY) and Josh Mollett (Gaither HS / Tampa, FL) as well as inSielder Derek Gibree (Clearwater Central Catholic HS / Largo, FL) will be heading north from Saint Leo this summer. Collett is a redshirt sophomore who began his college career at Keene State in NH. As a junior in high school, he broke he school record for lowest ERA in a season. Mollett is also a sophomore who made three starts for Saint Leo in 2014 as a freshman and expects to split time as a starter and reliever this spring. Gibree is a freshman this season with some strong Worcester connections. His father, Bob Gibree, hails from Worcester and also attended Saint Leo having graduated in 1985. Derek Gibree was a three-year letter winner at Clearwater Central Catholic, where he received Defensive Player of the Year honors and also led his team in hitting with a .425 batting average as a junior.

The Bravehearts have also added some pop to the lineup by signing some Division I talent from the Southland & MEAC conferences. Coppin State junior George "Bobby" Dragon (Edgewood HS / Ashtabula, OH) and Gavin Tristan (Kempner HS / Sugar Land, TX) of Lamar University will play signiSicant roles on the team. Dragon, besides possibly having the best name on the team, will play Sirst base and outSield. He transferred to Coppin State after a very successful season at Mercyhurst University, where he hit .315 and drove in 24 runs on his way to being named to the 2014 Sirst team all-region in the Western New York Athletic Conference. Gavin Tristan is a sophomore shortstop at Ranger College in Texas who will be transferring to Lamar in the fall. He played in 41 games as a freshman and hit .237 while Sinishing second on the team with seven stolen bases in 2014.

These nine players will join the Sifteen players already announced before Christmas as members of the 2015 Worcester Bravehearts. The home opener is slated for June 5th at Hanover Insurance Park at Fitton Field, and season tickets, Slex packs, and group outings for the 2015 season are now on sale by calling the Bravehearts' ofSice at 508-438-3773.
