San Antonio Scorpions News Release

SAN ANTONIO, Texas (Wednesday, February 11, 2015) - The San Antonio Scorpions and Atlanta Silverbacks have agreed to terms on a transfer that sends midfielder Pablo Cruz to the Scorpions, President/General Manager Howard Cornfield and Head Coach Alen Marcina announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Pablo Cruz is a former United Sates Youth National Team player and is a fantastic acquisition who bolsters our offense," said Marcina. "He fits the style of play we employ with his speed, he's good with the ball at his feet, and he possesses the ability to penetrate defenses and cause problems. He also comes with experience playing in our league, having won a Spring Championship as well as playing in the Soccer Bowl in 2013 with Atlanta."

The 5'6" native of Pasadena, California, was instrumental in the Silverbacks' 2013 Spring Season championship with three goals in all competitions. Cruz made 52 career appearances for Atlanta and scored four goals in his 1,423 minutes played in 2014.

Cruz played with the United States U-17s in 2007-08 and scored two goals in seven matches. The 23-year-old also played for Cal FC in 2012 when the amateur club scored one of the biggest upsets in U.S. Open Cup history by beating Major League Soccer's Portland Timbers.

Cruz signed his first professional contract when he joined the Atlanta Silverbacks in 2013.

With the move, the Scorpions now have twelve players on the roster for 2015:

GK - Sattler

D - DeRoux, James, Zea

M - Menjivar, Castillo, Forbes, Soto, Cruz

F - Elizondo, Hassli, Zahorski

The Scorpions play Major League Soccer's FC Dallas in the 2nd Annual deeproot Funds Cup on February 28 at Toyota Field and will begin defense of their championship when the NASL Spring Season kicks off on April 4 at Toyota Field against the Tampa Bay Rowdies.
