 Sarnia Sting

Weekend Preview

February 10, 2015 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Sarnia Sting News Release

With a mere 17 games remaining in the regular season, the Sting are currently in 7th place in the Western Conference Standings. That being said, the team is only 6 points back of Guelph, for 4th place and home ice advantage in the first round of playoffs. With four games on the docket this weekend, the Sting will have an opportunity to pick up valuable points in a tight Western Conference playoff race. The Sting kick off and close out the weekend against former Sting defenceman, Anthony DeAngelo and the Soo Greyhounds.

First, the Sting travel to Sault Ste. Marie on Wednesday night for a rare mid-week game, and then visit Guelph on Friday in a crucial matchup against the reigning OHL Champions.

The team returns home on Saturday night when they play host to the Niagara Ice Dogs at the RBC Centre. The Sting will be in tough on Saturday as the Ice Dogs have won 3 straight, and have earned points in 8 of their last 10 games. This is the 2nd and final tilt between the two clubs this season - Niagara got the better on the Sting on November 8th, winning 2-0 at home.

Then, on Monday afternoon at 2:05, the Sting take on the Greyhounds at home in the Annual Family Day Game, presented by RBC. The game is slated to be a special one for the Sting as they welcome back all-time leading scorer among defenceman, Anthony DeAngelo for the first time since being dealt to the Hounds at the deadline. Also, as part of the team's ongoing 20th Anniversary celebrations, the Sting will host a Century Club banner ceremony, paying tribute to all of the Sting greats who have recorded 100+ points in a single season. The group includes players such as Aaron Brand, Peter Sarno and Trevor Letowski.

As always, kids tickets are just $6 on Family Day, and fans are encouraged to bring their skates and join the team for a post-game skate following the final buzzer.
