Americans Get Revenge, Defeat Silvertips 4-3

Kennewick, WA- After a loss in Everett last night, the Tri-City Americans (25-25-0-3, 53 pts) earned revenge against the Everett Silvertips (33-16-3-1, 70 pts), as the Americans edged the Silvertips 4-3 in front of 4,294 fans at the Toyota Center on Saturday night.

The game started slow with both teams trying to find a rhythm. Everett got on the board late in the first period, as a turnover by the Americans led to a Nikita Scherbak goal, putting the Silvetips up 1-0. Everett had the shot advantage in the first, 9-5, and led going into the second period.

Early in the second period, the Americans got on the board on the power play. Richard Nejezchleb fired a shot that found the back of the net to even the score at one. Tri-City took the lead midway through the period, as Parker Wotherspoon tapped a pass to Beau McCue, firing a shot in between the legs of Austin Lotz and into the goal for a 2-1 lead going into the third period.

The Americans were able to get on the board early in the third, as McCue notched his second goal of the game on the power play to increase the lead to 3-1. Midway through the third, the Americans put another goal on the board, as Lucas Nickles slapped a loose puck into an open net to increase the lead to 4-1. Everett fought to get back into the game, and cut the Tri-City lead to 4-2 on a goal from Dawson Leedahl. Less than four minutes later, the Silvertips closed the gap to 4-3 on a goal by Remi Laurencelle. Everett had a chance to tie the game with a four minute power play, but couldn't convert. Eric Comrie was strong between the pipes the rest of the way to help the Americans earn the victory.

The Americans tallied 10 penalty minutes and converted 2-of-4 power play chances. The Silvertips recorded eight penalty minutes and couldn't convert any of its five power play chances.

Eric Comrie stopped 31 shots in the win, while Austin Lotz made 21 saves in the loss.

The Americans will travel across the border for a contest against the Kamloops Blazers (20-29-3-3, 46 pts) this Monday, Feb. 9, at the Interior Savings Centre. Game time is at 2 p.m. The Americans lost the last meeting against the Blazers, 3-1, in Kamloops, on Jan. 21.
