Spits Fall Five Back of Playoff Spot with 5-2 Loss at Oshawa

(Oshawa, ON) - Matt Mistele scored twice as the Oshawa Generals became the first Canadian Hockey League team to officially clinch a playoff spot with a 5-2 win over the Spitfires before a crowd of 5,451 at the GM Centre Friday night.

Logan Brown (15) and Sam Povorozniouk (13) sandwiched Windsor (21-27-1-1) goals around five consecutive scored by the home side.

Former Spitfire Hunter Smith (19), Brent Pedersen (13) and Aiden Wallace (8) had singles for Oshawa (39-7-2-2), which beat the Spits for the first time at home since December 6, 2009. Alex Fotinos made 49 saves in a losing cause, as the Generals outshot the Spitfires 53 to 27, including 41 to 14 in the opening 40 minutes.

Ken Appleby made 25 stops, earning his 32nd win of the season in just 39 appearances. By virute of the Sagniaw Spirit's 4-3, comeback win over Owen Sound, the Spitfires now sit five points out of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference, with 18 games remaining.

The Spitfires wrap up a stretch of three games in three nights Saturday as they make their only appearance of the season in Peterborough.
