Williamson Leads Columbus over Fayetteville, 8-0

Bryce Williamson was all over the ice for the Columbus Cottonmouths, as he tallied one goal and four assists in Columbus' 8-0 win over the Fayetteville FireAntz.

Williamson got on the board by slotting home a goal 1:24 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Columbus. Matt Gingera provided the assist. Williamson dished an assist on Levi Lind's goal that made the score 2-0 Columbus at 13:26 into the first period. He then added assists on Gingera's goal at 3:47 into the second, on Gingera's goal at 16:34 into the second, and on Gingera's goal at 37 seconds into the third.

Andrew Loewen spearheaded the defensive effort for the Cottonmouths, as he did not allow a puck past him and made 31 saves for the shutout. The solid play of Loewen will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.15.

Columbus put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Fayetteville to score on any of its five power plays. The Cottonmouths' defensive effort looked to be improved. Columbus averages 2.8 goals allowed per game. The Cottonmouths surpassed their usual scoring output this season. This season, Columbus averages 2.9 goals per contest. The defensemen of the Cottonmouths were also effective in the FireAntz's zone, and came away with two goals. The 52 shots that Columbus put on net surpassed the Cottonmouths' average of 29.6 shots per game this season.

Columbus additionally got points from Gingera, who also finished with three goals and one assist and Nick Curry, who also registered one goal and two assists. Columbus also had goals scored by Louis Belisle and Mike Switzer, who scored one goal each. In addition, Columbus received assists from Shawn Bates, who had two and Tyler MacPherson, Andy Willigar, Neilsson Arcibal, and Max Cook, who each chipped in one.

Fayetteville racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with six minors and one major for 27 minutes in penalty time. The FireAntz surpassed its season average of 24.0 penalty minutes per game. Fayetteville could not produce up to its normal offensive output. The FireAntz average 2.6 goals per game. Fayetteville's offense rang up 31 shots on Columbus' net.

The FireAntz were led by Jan Safar, who took four shots.

The Cottonmouths totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 3-for-7 on the power play. Fayetteville's Jordan Tibbett stopped 44 shots out of the 52 that he faced.
