Providence Bruins News Release

WORCESTER, M.A. - The Providence Bruins erased two deficits, both courtesy of Ryan Spooner, but the Worcester Sharks defeated them 3-2 in the second half of a home-and-home on Saturday night at the DCU Center.

John McCarthy recorded the first goal of the game at 3:41 of the first, when Eriah Hayes sped around Niklas Svedberg's net, wristed it to the opposite side of the goal mouth, and McCarthy's one-timer caromed off of the crossbar into the back of the cage.

The Bruins earned the first power play of the night, and their first goal came shortly after it ended. Only four seconds later, Spooner scored the first of his two goals. Khokhlachev ranged into the far corner and fed Spooner on the near doorstep at 10:01 of the first.

Eriah Hayes-- the first star of the game-- put his team back in front just 3:06 later. His first goal in almost three months made it 2-1 Sharks. He stutter-stepped to make it look as if he would go behind the net, but stopped on a dime and launched it off of Svedberg.

For the second straight night, each team scored a goal in the second period. Spooner created a 2-on-1 after a turnover, as he and Rob Flick went back and forth before the Providence center tied the game again at 2-2, 6:57 into the frame.

Hayes helped create another go-ahead goal (and the eventual game-winner) when Ryan Carpenter passed to him, then Hayes wrapped around the cage. Hayes threaded it through the crease, and Carpenter capitalized.

In the third, Khokhlachev had the best opportunity to tie the game. With 4:28 left, he redirected a shot from right in front of Aaron Dell, but the goaltender made the stop. Providence was outshot both in the period (8-7) and the game (31-28).

The Bruins next game is Friday at 7:05pm at the Dunkin Donuts Center, as they host the Manchester Monarchs to start another home-and-home series.
