Fury Close in on Playoff Spot with 8-5 Win

January 31, 2015 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Ontario Fury News Release

The Ontario Fury, Driven by Mark Christopher Chevrolet, held off a fourth quarter comeback to knock off the host Turlock Express, 8-5, Jan. 30 at Turlock Indoor Soccer.

The Fury were led by recent acquisitions Jamar Beasley and Corey Maret. Beasley, the brother of US Men's National Team star DeMarcus Beasley, led the way with three goals, while Maret, in his second game with the Fury, scored twice and added an assist.

The victory moved the Fury's magic number to clinch a playoff spot to one.

Goaltender Alexis Apodaca was credited with 11 saves for his fourth consecutive victory. It was the third straight game he has allowed six goals or less, and has dropped his goals against average to 7.35 on the season.

The Fury were without leading scorer Tiguinho and forward Tino Nunez, as they started a lineup that featured a few new faces. Warren Ukah and Bronil Koochoie, both added to the roster earlier in the week, played their first games with the Fury. Koochoie had a goal, while Ukah had an assist.

Ontario is now 11-5 on the season, and stand a game-and-a-half behind first place San Diego in the Pacific Division, while also holding a game-and-a-half advantage on third place Las Vegas. The Fury return to action tonight in Sacramento with a 7:05 p.m. start time. The game can be heard on Newstalk 1450 in the Inland Empire, and streamed live on Go Live Sports Cast.
